Soil is essential for life on Earth. By providing key ecosystem services, it creates the underlying conditions that allow for the well-being of numerous organisms, animals and human beings. It promotes food and wood production, water storage and filtration, nutrient cycling, flood regulation and many more useful processes. However, only a healthy soil can support the adequate and sustained functioning of ecosystems and the processes associated with them.

Soil protection is therefore a fundamental priority. Fortunately, many initiatives have already emerged worldwide that aim at encouraging soil conservation and the preservation of vital soil functions. To add its own contribution and raise further awareness about sustainable soil management, the Links4Soils team designed a soil etiquette leaflet containing easy-to-implement guidelines for different land use sectors. The leaflet is mainly targeted at decision-makers in agriculture, forestry, natural hazard management, nature and biodiversity protection, spatial and urban planning and tourism but other stakeholders are also invited to take a look and learn more about the topic.
