Project Partners Sinan von Stietencron and Réka Rozsnyói had the opportunity to join the Bavarian Elite Academy’s (BEA) hackathon weekend on 13-15. September in Obergurgl, Tyrol, Austria. The topic of the hackathon, inspired by the Art and Nature Foundation, was soils in the Alpine region.
As part of their assignment, BEA scholarship holders were introduced to the topic of Alpine soils and were offered in-depth insights by biology, spatial planning and other experts. Then, they prepared a presentation about the relevance of healthy soils for various land-use sectors in the Alpine region, which they presented to the public at the Obergurgl Conference Center. At the end of the presentation, the audience was encouraged to ask questions and join the discussion around the topic.
The hackathon provided an ideal first opportunity for the introduction of the new SOIL:OurInvisibleAlly project and served as an excellent first step towards one of the main project objectives; to raise awareness about Alpine soils and the importance of their appropriate and sustainable management.
